Toshiba Satellite Pro 4290

Another freebie, this time from work. It was destined for e-waste but I was allowed to take it home instead. It's in pretty decent condition and has an Intel Celeron 550MHz (Coppermine) CPU, 128MB of RAM and a 5GB HDD.

The Celeron CPU is a better option in mobile form than its desktop counterpart, as instead of the 66MHz FSB the desktop processors were hobbled with, the mobile Coppermine Celerons got a 100Mz FSB. Conversely, the mobile Coppermine Pentium III processors were only available with a 100MHz FSB without the 133MHz option that was available with the desktop processors. Of course, the L2 cache is 128kB vs the 256kB in the Pentium III. Upgrading isn't an option anyway as the CPU is soldered to the motherboard.
