Zenith Z-Note 325L

I spotted this one on Facebook Marketplace a few weeks after buying the Z-Note Flex. This one was being sold off as part of someone's estate, apparently it was a work laptop when the gentleman worked for the local council. Unfortunately a boot password has been set, I haven't yet managed to guess or bypass it, so this laptop remains a bit of a mystery so far. It's also spent a few decades in a house of smokers, so the white plastic is yellowed by nicotine and it has that stale tobacco smell. Still, when it gets to the top of the project pile I hope it'll turn out OK. It has a 386SL 25MHz CPU and should have 4MB of onboard RAM, and also has a 2MB RAM module.

I've opened it up and found that the CMOS backup battery had leaked badly, corroding part of the lower PCB that has the power supply circuitry, video and disc controller. Having removed it, I now can't see anything on the display, the hard drive won't spin up and the beeps from the speaker are very weak. I suspect that in removing the battery I disturbed some last bits of vaguely conductive corrosion. There is at least a reasonable regulated 5V getting to the CPU/RAM board, so the power supply circuitry seems to be working.

This one's going to need a fair bit of detailed work to resurrect...
